Frosted Orange Cookies

While there is nothing better than a tried-and-true cookie recipe that has been passed down through the family lineage for years, there is something exciting and daring about trying an all new recipe. And when that recipe is made with the perfect ingredients, well, that cookie transforms from a daring test to a new family tradition.

We have such a recipe and the ingredients to go along with it. Using our amazing Alta Artisan Flour (Which not only makes the best bread you've ever had, but also mouth-watering, out-of-this-world cookies) and with some help from a California favorite, the orange, we've created the perfect recipe that combines daring adventure with absolutely amazing taste. Trust us, you simply can't pass this treat up. Get ready, it's time to make some Frosted Orange Cookies!

Ingredients:
2 Oranges
1/2 cup Shortening
1 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Milk
2 cups Honeyville Alta Artisan Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Baking Soda
1/2 tsp Himalayan Salt

Yields: 4 dozen cookies

Frosting:
2 1/2 cups Powdered Sugar
1 Tbsp Butter, melted

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

To do so, slice the oranges up into quarters, then remove the peels. Place the oranges in a blender, then zest the peels in the blender. Process until a thick mixture forms (it should be about 3/4 cup of mixture).

In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar together.

Beat in milk and 6 Tbsp orange mixture.

In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gently add to creamed mixture until a thick batter forms.

Using a cookie scoop, drop spoonfuls of batter onto your USA Pan Baking Sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake at 350 degrees for 10-13 minutes. Remove to wire rack and let cool.

While cookies are cooling, prepare frosting by adding remaining orange mixture, powdered sugar, and butter, and whisking together until a thin frosting forms. Spread frosting evenly over each cookie, let set up, then serve.
