"What's your favorite dish for Christmas Dinner?" That was a question I recently saw on a popular family game show. The question itself had been asked to a group of people before show started, and it was now up to the contestants to figure out which was the answer most people responded with. What that answer was astonished me. It wasn't Ham, potatoes, yams, or even pie. No, the top answer, or the thing people loved most about Christmas Dinner, were the rolls!
Is it any wonder we find freshly baked rolls at the dinner table each Holiday season? Light, fluffy, and the perfect addition to any meal, we can't imagine any gathering or family get-together, especially during this time of year, without them!
So imagine, if you will, all the things you love about freshly baked rolls, but with a delicious, sweet side. That's right, dinner rolls that double as dessert! Using our amazing Alta Artisan Flour, we've created for you the perfect Orange Roll recipe that is simple to bake and mouth watering delicious! This is definitely a dish you want this Holiday season. Time to bake up some Orange Rolls!
Ingredients:
3 cups Warm Water
1/4 cup Butter, melted
1/3 cup Sugar
1 Tbsp Himalayan Salt
6-8 cups Honeyville Alta Artisan Flour
3 Tbsp SAF Yeast
Orange Topping:
1 cup Sugar
1 cup Butter, melted
Zest from 1 Orange
Glaze:
1 cup Powdered Sugar
1 Tbsp Butter, melted
2 Tbsp Orange Juice
Yields: 24 rolls
Directions:
First, make your dough.
In your WonderMix Mixer, add the following ingredients in this order: water, butter, sugar, salt, 4 cups flour, and yeast. Turn mixer on and, while ingredients are mixing, add remaining flour 1 cup at a time until dough begins to pull away from sides (you may find that you add less or more than the measurements listed above). Knead in machine for 4-5 minutes.
Remove and place dough in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise for 30-40 minutes, or until double in size.
While dough is rising, make your orange topping by whisking together sugar, butter, and zest in a medium bowl.
Once dough has risen, punch down, remove, and divide in half.
Pinch off pieces of dough, about the size of a racquetball, and roll in orange topping.
Place dough balls on your USA Pan Baking Sheet, lined with parchment paper.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Let rolls rise during that time.
Once oven is preheated, place rolls in warm oven, knock temperature down to 350 degrees, and bake for 25-30 minutes.
While rolls are baking, prepare your glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, butter, and orange juice.
Once rolls are done baking, remove from oven and brush with glaze.
Let sit for 10 minutes, for glaze to solidify, before serving.
Sweet, tangy, and with a texture that is out of this world, these definitely are the rolls you'll want to serve (and enjoy!) this Holiday season! The rolls themselves bake up warm, light, and fluffy, while the orange topping and glaze give a taste that you simply can't find anywhere else. Trust us, you're going to be looking for reasons to serve these up!
There's no doubt, rolls are our favorite part of the Holidays, especially when it's these Orange Rolls!
